You can choose your adhesive type based on the energy of the surface you will be applying the sticker to. Surface energies range from high to low and adhesive strengths work differently based on whether the surface energy is low, medium, or high.

Higher density surfaces such as glass or metal would be considered extremely high energy surfaces, so even a low tack adhesive such as Removable Vinyl will create a strong bond that can give more of a permanent, long-lasting effect. Whereas more porous surfaces, such as carpet or cardboard, would be considered very low energy or “hard to stick” surfaces. So applying a more permanent adhesive would actually act as a short-term adhesive and provide a much shorter lifetime for the sticker.
